Rapture mini story

Carlas Enlists.

The rain poured down and as the night got later, a cold wind blew in almost turning it into snow. There wolf pups sat at home, waiting. The fresh smell of cooked meat mixed with apples hung in the air. It warmed the house. A young dark female wolf pulled the warm mixture out of the oven and placed it on the stove. A rust and white male walked through the door and took a deep breath. "I wonder how much longer mom will be, it's not like her to be late.' He walked over to the kitchen cabinet that held glasses and poured himself a glass of cool clear water.

A marbled male who sat at the table scribbled away at his homework. 'Maybe she got lost.' It was a silly thought, she had been making this trip for years. Their mother was late, by hours, and that had never happened again.

The lone female walked up behind him and placed her paw on his shoulder. 'I'm sure the weather is just keeping her. We will go a head and eat while it's hot, she'll understand.' She ruffled his head and started serving dinner. 'Travon, would you mind setting the table please. You can finish your homework later.' Although all of them were just hours apart they already seemed to have their own pack roles. Devi took up keeping her brothers safe and cared for. After their father died in the line of duty their mother took up a job in the city. Travon seemed younger, it was due to the fact that he was so close to their dad. It hit him the hardest and he just never bounced back. 'Carlas, would you mind helping me clean up after?' Carlas really stepped up after dad died. He was working hard at school and making sure his siblings stayed on track.

'Of course sister.' He stated simply as he shoved a chunk of meat into his maw. The meal continued in mostly silence. They all were worried about their mom. Her behavior was not normal. They cleaned up their mess and put away the left over's. Mom was still not home. They all went to bed, scared, worried and hoping that things were ok.

Days went by and they were still alone. They called the local law enforcement and they spent days more searching. They couldn't find her, nor could they find a body. A knock on the door sent all three canines running. The door flung open to a German Shepherd Dog wrapped up tight in a police tactical uniform. They knew him from when their father worked on the force. Carlas stepped up, 'What did you find Marcus?' his voice was shaky and scared. Marcus lowered his head and requested to come in. The pups happily half drug him to the couch, as Devi brought him a hot cup of tea.

The officer explained how they searched everywhere, that they couldn't find a car nor any other trace of their beloved mother. 'It's up to you all, would you like to continue to live here, or try and get another family?' he sighed heavily. 'I am willing to help you in any way that I can.'

Carlas stepped up. 'Sir, I want us to stay here but I would need to get a job. Think the military could help me?' It shocked Devi, and poor Travon was to busy curled up. Carlas and Marcus talked for hours about this option. A few weeks later things were final and their brother was going to a local military location. He gave up his school, his dreams, and his life for what was left of his family. Devi vowed to never let the three part ways.
